How a GDPR specialist can help HR personnel

13 Oct 2023

As an HR, having access to so much sensitive and personal information comes with a huge amount of responsibility. The introduction of GDPR has made many in the profession feel an even greater sense of pressure to safeguard this data, ensuring it is treated with the utmost confidentiality, and used appropriately.

Although this all falls within an HR’s role, it does not mean that you should be expected to be a GDPR expert. This is a specialist area, and a little external help and advice can be an excellent idea to ensure compliance, help put the rules into practice – and provide peace of mind.

Here’s how a GDPR specialist can help make an HR’s role easier:

Simplifying the jargon
There’s a lot of jargon in GDPR and it can be a challenge to understand. Rather than spending time yourself learning this new ‘language’, an expert can translate it for you and explain what it means for your practices.

Spotting gaps
Some of your business documents could be in need of a refresh, or there might be one or two that need adding to your files. A GDPR specialist can assess your existing policies, refresh them or help you to create new versions, where necessary.

Training
Whether you feel you have a good grasp of the rules and just need a refresher or could benefit from reviewing the basics, a training session can give you the opportunity to ask questions, and give you the confidence to know that you’re working within the guidelines for the work you do

Crisis management
In the event of a DSAR (data subject access request) or data breach, time is of the essence; it’s not the time to learn on the job. Being able to call on a GDPR expert who can quickly act to help you deal with the request for data or a data incident can save stress and limit any damage.

Saving time
An HR’s role is wide and varied. Outsourcing on an ad hoc or ongoing basis can free you up to concentrate on your core tasks, safe in the knowledge that this important area is being taken care of and taking a job off your to-do list.
